Flashcards for children — alphabet, number, animal, and color cards that support vocabulary and early learning. Cards work well because they can be used in many ways: looking, naming, sorting, or hide-and-seek. The youngest children do best with high-contrast black-and-white cards that a baby's eyes can follow. From age two, animals and everyday objects start to draw interest, and from age three, letters and numbers. Choose thick cardboard or laminated cards, since thin paper doesn't hold up long in a child's hands. A short ten-minute session works better than a long study period.
